Description of the vehicle
Only four Bugatti Atlantic vehicles were built in the 1930s, and only two of them have stood the test of time and survived to the present day. One of them is owned by fashion designer Ralph Lauren, and we used this vehicle as a template for the replica, which was identical almost right down to the smallest details. The body structure’s elaborate wooden body design was made on a chassis based exactly on the Bugatti Type 57 SC. This model is built in line with the measurements of a photo of the original body taken decades ago of one of the two Bugatti Atlantic cars. The production of the many details (such as aeration and venting flaps and the elaborate window frames with brass opening mechanism) and the creation of countless riveted joints requiring a great deal of time and fiddling around, particularly when it came to the paint structure, were particularly challenging. The Atlantic was then painted in jet black before being elaborately sanded and polished. The vehicle is on show at the Autovision Museum in Altlußheim near Hockenheim, along with four other Bugatti Type 57s which we also built and restored
